The Greater Vancouver Food Bank held their annual Lunch Money Day on May 31, 2011, and Mercer Bradley’s Vancouver office raised $170 for the Food Bank for Lunch Money Day. We are honoured to play a small part in supporting such a worthy cause.

From May 10-14, ACSESS held its annual national conference at the Hotel Omni Mont-Royal in Montreal. Mercer Bradley was pleased to have 3 delegates attend the conference this year: Angela Chambers, CMA, CPC, Cliff Kanto, CMA, CPC, Dave Kastelic, CMA. Angela has recently received her CPC designation and was recognized at the conference this year along with her fellow CPC graduates.

So what is 2011 looking like? While the economy is nowhere near as robust as it was a few years ago, and there are unfortunately companies that are still suffering from the impacts of the economic downturn, we are seeing an upward trend. Staffing and many projects that were put on hold are moving ahead in many of the client companies we work with. As well, it seems that investors are, on the whole, more ready to invest now than they were a year or so ago.

Each year we host an annual team meeting in Vancouver for our entire company. For our inspirational/motivational event, we invited Carla Rieger to speak to us on the Art of Change. For our fun team building event this year we spent an afternoon at Raw Canvas in Yaletown.

One of the most rewarding parts of my eight years in this business has been building and deepening business relationships with companies and with individuals. It’s very important to me to develop a strong understanding of the client companies and the individuals I work with, as well as their needs, wants and priorities. It is also important for me to stay on top of and anticipate what’s happening not just in the world of accounting and finance, but also in the employment market and generally in the world of human capital. Both of these allow me and my team to be a more effective business and staffing partners to our clients in both the short-term and the long-term.
